How to Use an Industrial Carpet Cleaner
Carpets are undeniably cozy, comforting, and they feel luxurious under your toes. But they can also harbor lots of dirt and grime if they’re not cleaned properly. Though your regular vacuum can eliminate surface-level dirt, it can’t reach those deeper fibers leaving a lot of nasty stuff behind.
Thankfully, industrial carpet cleaners are designed to do exactly that. These powerful machines can thoroughly clean and revive your carpet to look not only just like new, but feel it too. Whether you’ve just gotten your hands on one and are wondering how to use an industrial cleaner such as this, or if you’re considering a purchase, we can help. Here’s everything you need to know.
Make Sure the Machine is in Good Condition
At Daimer Industries, our industrial carpet cleaners are always kept in good condition, but accidents can still happen, especially during shipping. That’s why we always recommend taking a few minutes to inspect the machine for any marks, dents or other noticeable issues before using it. Ensure there is no rattling, all accessories and attachments are accounted for, and that the reservoir doesn’t leak when not in use.
Remove Furniture
Before using your industrial carpet cleaner, make sure the room where you’ll be using it is clear. Remove furniture so you can access the entire carpet to clean it thoroughly, as you don’t want any nooks or crannies to be left untreated. If certain items need to stay put, you can wrap them up with plastic to protect them from any moisture.
Use Your Regular Vacuum First
Prior to using your machine, give your regular vacuum a pass over the carpeted area in question. While industrial cleaning equipment is designed to penetrate deep into the carpet fibers to remove built up dirt, dust and stains, it’s easier to take care of top-level debris beforehand. By vacuuming first, you can get rid of any surface layer buildup so the industrial one can do what it is designed for: thoroughly cleaning those deeper layers.
Prep Our Eco Green® Cleaning Solution (and Test it First)
Our Eco-Green® carpet care liquid is not only 100% non-toxic and biodegradable, but designed to ensure the best possible results on every carpet cleaning job. Follow the instructions to pre-mix the solution with care, making it more effective. Prior to using the cleaner for the job at hand, test it out on a patch of your carpet, preferably somewhere that can be concealed. Cleaning solutions can sometimes react differently with various carpets. That’s why testing it out first is important. When administering, the goal is to dampen the carpet rather than over-wetting it. One gallon of our cleaning solution is sufficient for around 200 square feet.
Pre-Treat Stains
If you have kids or pets, then you likely have a few stains on the carpet. If your carpet is in need of a serious cleaning, it’s best to pre-treat any stains or high-traffic, grubbier areas first. Wait at least five to ten minutes before resuming the cleaning process.
Follow a Straight-Line Technique
When you’re using an industrial carpet cleaner, be sure to work in straight lines, similar to when mowing the lawn. This helps to eliminate any confusion by clearly identifying which areas have been cleaned and which have not. Going at it randomly can leave behind missed patches, and you otherwise run the risk of over-wetting your carpeting. Make sure to also do at least two vacuuming pases for every wet pass. Pull and hold the trigger to spray water and move the wand back and forth in a straight line. THen, release the trigger and go back over the same stripe a couple of times. Use slow deliberate strokes. No need to push down or try to scrub...let the machine do it.
Give it Time to Dry
A carpet usually needs three to five hours to dry after it has been cleaned. Afterwards, use your regular vacuum in the opposite pattern that was used to clean it (horizontal straight lines rather than vertical when administering the solution, for instance). This will speed up the rest of the drying time. Only reposition your furniture back on the carpet once it is completely dry. Air movers and fans can also be used to speed up the drying time.
